Joan Meyer, RN, MHA, CCMEP, President, MediCom Worldwide, Inc.
Joan Meyer joined MediCom Worldwide, Inc. in 1999 after more than 30 years as an executive with the Christian Hospital BJC HealthCare System. As President of MediCom, Ms. Meyer is responsible for developing the company’s accredited educational activities. She has developed programs in therapeutic areas such as COPD, BPH, women’s health issues (menopause, SUI) stroke, hypertension, ADHD, psychosis, bipolar disease, Alzheimer’s disease, chronic nonmalignant pain management, abuse and addiction issues, migraines, oncology, mucositis, and anemia.
With her hospital background and experience in budgeting, fiscal planning, quality assurance, customer service, as well as regulatory and compliance issues, Ms. Meyer is able to seamlessly take on the daily demands of this challenging position.
Ms. Meyer holds a Masters degree in hospital administration, is a registered nurse and is also a Certified CME Professional.
Sheri Sturgis – Chief Operating Officer, MediCom Worldwide, Inc.
Ms. Sturgis joined the MediCom Worldwide organization in 1997, where she has been a key executive in MediCom’s growth and development. Initially responsible for content editing and coordination of content development with KOLs, Ms. Sturgis was subsequently promoted to Director of Production, where she was responsible for managing the creative development of every MediCom project, including live symposia, slide kits, videos, audio and data CDs, teleconferences and symposia. In addition, she was the Account Executive for MediCom’s distance learning initiatives, reaching more than 150,000 health care professionals each year. When MediCom reorganized in 2004, Ms. Sturgis worked first in ROI Media Group, Inc. and then Corona Productions, bringing her production and implementation skills to both companies. Ms. Sturgis rejoined MediCom in 2009 as the Chief Operating Officer, and she continues to consult closely with Corona Productions in its many and diverse strategic initiatives. As MediCom’s COO, Ms. Sturgis is responsible for the efficient development and implementation of MediCom’s diverse online communities, for expanding the reach of these web-based initiatives among the target audiences of health care professionals, and for overseeing the incorporation of the latest technologies into MediCom’s online initiatives, thereby ensuring maximum reach of effective and engaging activities among the clinician members of these communities.
After graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from Penn State University, Ms. Sturgis trained in advanced transgenic and knock-out mouse technology at the University of North Carolina before becoming the assistant manager of the Jackson Laboratory Transgenic Facility, the world’s leading developer of genetically altered mice.
Alana L. K. Brody, MBA, Vice President, Strategic Development
Alana Brody joined MediCom Worldwide, Inc. in 2011 as vice president for strategic development. Ms. Brody’s role is to strengthen strategic alliances with key partners and stakeholders in order to achieve mutual goals and outcomes. She is instrumental in conceptualizing new approaches to using social media and other emerging technologies to enhance medical education outreach.
Ms. Brody is a strategic leader with demonstrated success expanding the reach, effectiveness, and impact of groundbreaking health care organizations. A high-level thinker, she has worked to enable access to medical care for people with debilitating diseases such as cancer for over 15 years. She is a co-founder of CancerConnect.com – an online network for people with cancer. She has also been the senior vice president of strategic development with the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN).
Ms. Brody received her MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York and her BS in marketing from Syracuse University.
Eugene R. Tombler, PhD, FACME, Medical Director, Oncology
Dr. Gene Tombler brings to MediCom Worldwide an extensive interdisciplinary background in the biomedical sciences and more than 10 years’ experience in oncology. He has served as a medical writer, publication planner, and medical director in promotional medical communications at PharmaWrite and Excerpta Medica, an Elsevier business; and as a senior medical advisor and vice president of educational development at ArcMesa Educators. Dr. Tombler has developed oncology programs for prostate, breast, ovarian, lung, liver, and kidney cancers, as well as for hematologic malignancies including AML, CML, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. He played a pivotal role in the development of the first interdisciplinary prostate cancer congress, fostering multidisciplinary care team management strategies among urologists, radiation oncologists and medical oncologists for improved patient outcomes. Dr. Tombler is uniquely positioned to integrate his experiences to provide practitioners timely, pertinent, and valuable CE activities in the ever-changing and evolving clinical oncology environment.
Dr. Tombler received his PhD in Biomedical Sciences as a Public Health Service grant trainee within the Molecular, Cellular, Biochemical and Developmental Sciences Program at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine of NYU. He served as a Research Fellow and National Research Service Award trainee in Cancer Biology and Immunopathology while he conducted preclinical and clinical breast cancer studies within the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
Alan J. Vogenberg, RPh, FASCP, Clinical Consultant
Alan J. Vogenberg joined MediCom Worldwide, Inc. in 2001 as a clinical consultant. Alan graduated from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia with a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy. A member of the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association, he is a registered pharmacist in Pennsylvania, Florida and New York and is a fellow of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists. He is an adjunct clinical instructor at the Community College of Philadelphia, and Bucks County Community College. In addition, Mr. Vogenberg is author of a number of articles and essays for local, state, and national pharmaceutical magazines and journals of various health care professions.
Clinical Advisory Panels
MediCom develops dedicated Clinical Advisory Panels for each therapeutic area of expertise. Each Advisory Panel is responsible for participating in the planning process to ensure that planned activities are relevant and applicable to the clinical audience. Faculty members from each Panel also review the planned educational activities to ensure that all MediCom standards are achieved, that learning objectives are met, and that the activity was produced as planned.
